Lorain Impoundment Field Trip
Saturday, July 25, 2015 8:30 a.m.
Leader: Patty McKelvey
15 birders, 30 species
This mild July morning at Lorain Impoundment did not bring a large
variety of shorebirds, but the variety of birds was rewarding.
Dumping of dredging from the Black River continues, and
rearrangement of the landscape, as evidenced by cranes and barges.
Fifteen birders walked the dike around the area, braving an
overgrown section, and hot sun later in the morning.
Several birders visited Lorain City Hall following the
impoundment walk. The
reward: Fourteen Cliff
Swallow nests with young and a Northern Mockingbird.
