Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society Field Trip Sunday, September 13, 2009, 8-11 a.m. Accessible Birding Canalway Center, Cleveland Metroparks Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation Leaders: Jo Ann Kubicki and Joe Woyma
Splendid blue sky made this a perfect day to be outside. A visitor from Colorado was among the 21 birders. Flocks of Cedar Waxwings and American Goldfinches provided music and color. Just two warbler species showed up: a cooperative Black-and-white Warbler and a Yellow Warbler. Green Herons, Great Blue Herons and Flickers posed for good views.
The Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation is home to the first nine-hole Audubon International Gold Signature Golf Course: Washington Golf Learning Center. Before starting out on our accessible bird-by-cart field trip, we learned from Jo Ann Kubicki about sustainable practices that make this golf course a bird-friendly wildlife sanctuary. Bird surveys have revealed a nice variety of species, including resident Brown Thrashers. More about the golf course is at http://signature.auduboninternational.org/members/OH.htm
