Below are the results of the 2006 Lakewood Christmas Bird Count, Saturday,
December 30, 2006:
64 Participants (not all paying)
17.5 hours for feeder watchers
53.25 hours on foot with 45.75 miles being covered
7.75 miles by car with 100.5 miles being covered
66 Species seen with 14,847 individuals. Two species noted during count week.
Of special note were the Black Scoter, Wild Turkey and Killdeer. High count
of Red-tailed Hawk and Cooper's Hawk. Low numbers of big water ducks as well as
species and numbers of gulls. Lake Erie was wide open ... it was just too darn
nice a day. Other noteable sitings - painted turtles sunning themselves at Lake
Isaac, fresh spider silk.
