Society at Ohio Prairie Nursery
Bob Kehres was our host at the Ohio Prairie Nursery in Hiram, Ohio on
Saturday August 1, 2009. Kehres became interested in native plants
through birding. He and his staff have installed prairie landscapes at
many locations in northeast Ohio, including Wendy Park, Kent State
University, Blossom Music Center, and at locations in the Cleveland
Metroparks. Our tour included a blooming prairie, a field of big
bluestem grown for seed, a rain garden and a step-pool. Butterflies and
several species of native bee moved among the flowers. A highlight of
the bird walk was a singing Indigo Bunting.
